Create Swing Force

It seems logical that if you want a golf ball to go straight, long and up in the air, then you should create a force which moves through the ball and toward your target.  After all, haven’t you heard the saying that you should “hit through the ball”?

Like so many things about golf and the golf swing, your job as a golfer is to create a force which moves away from you and down the length of the shaft.  This is the same principle a hammer thrower uses; the athlete, not the angry carpenter.

In the video below I am swinging a piece of rope to show how the principle works.  Once you understand the principle you will be able to see how increasing the force in your swing means increasing the force going down the shaft, or in this case, the force going down the length of the rope.
