Creative Chipping

May 5, 2015

You probably know the standard advice for chip shot strategies which is to get the ball running as soon as possible and land the ball on a relatively flat surface.  This advice works for the majority of chip shots around the green.

What do you do for an exception to this rule?

This is where your creativity comes in.  You may need to play a shot which doesn’t strictly follow the two rules about running the ball and where you should land your shot.  The best way to develop this creativity is through practice.

Practice hitting chip shots with all clubs in your bag, even if you have no intention of ever using them on the course.  The more you expand your range of ‘feels’ with different clubs, the better you will become with your favourites.

Do the drill in the video below to sharpen your short game skills.
