How Hard Should you Hit your Putts?

June 18, 2015

Speed control in putting is key to reducing the total number of putts you have per round and your ability to increase the number of putts you hole.

There are differing schools of thought about how far past the hole your ball should finish if it misses the hole.  However if you hit the ball so it has sufficient pace to finish about 30cm past the hole, then even if it misses the hole, you will have a simple putt left.

If you practice your distance control, you will definitely reduce three-putting as well.  Every time you three-putt it feels like you are wasting a shot.  Here’s how to avoid that.
